Bill 211 Up for Debate
Watch my introduction to the Arts and Creative Economy Advisory Council Act

Joe signing Bill 211
Friends,
I am pleased to share an important development that could shape the future of Alberta’s arts and creative economy. On April 28, 2025, we began the second reading of Bill 211 – The Arts and Creative Economy Advisory Council Act. This Private Members Bill aims to establish a dedicated advisory body to guide provincial policy and investment in the arts and creative sectors. Please take a moment to watch the introduction to the Bill at the embedded link.
What Is Bill 211?
Bill 211 proposes the creation of the Arts and Creative Economy Advisory Council, a new entity that would:
Advise the government on policies and programs that support the arts and creative industries.
Advocate for sustainable funding and equitable access to resources across the province.
Engage with artists, organizations, and communities to ensure diverse voices are heard in decision-making.
Promote the economic and social value of the arts in Alberta.
Why This Matters
The arts and creative sectors are vital to Alberta’s identity and economy. They contribute to community well-being, tourism, education, and the overall vibrancy of our province.
Creative industries improve the quality of life and contribute to the economic vitality of the province.
We have heard over and over again that the creative economy in Alberta is struggling because the systems that should support it are fragmented and inefficient.
Next Steps
The bill is currently under review in the Alberta Legislature. As it progresses, I encourage you to stay informed and engaged. The next opportunity for debate will be Monday, May 4 during the afternoon session. If you have thoughts, arguments and comments you want me to include in my debate on Monday, please send via reply to this email..
In creativity,
Joe Ceci
